Rabun County Emergency Medical Services serves the residents and visitors of Rabun County with three Advanced Life Support Ambulances twenty-four hours a day. Two ambulances are currently stationed near the center of Rabun County in Clayton, and one ambulance is stationed for coverage of northern Rabun County in Dillard. Rabun County EMS utilizes a fleet of four-wheel-drive ambulances in most cases and also has four-wheel drive support vehicles and utility vehicles to access more difficult locations.

For the calendar year 2018, EMS responded to over 2,900 calls for assistance. Rabun County EMS utilizes the First Responder system in conjunction with the Rabun County Fire Department and Rabun County Search and Rescue for some responses, resulting in quicker responses to outlying areas and additional personnel with more critical cases.

Rabun County EMS personnel are trained in advanced care for cardiac care, stroke care, pediatric care, trauma management, and other types of emergencies.  EMS personnel also have guidelines to facilitate a patient’s potential referral to regional Trauma Centers, Burn Centers, Pediatric Centers, or other specialty hospitals via helicopter transport.

Rabun County EMS participates in the STEMI program with Northeast Georgia Medical Center and other area hospitals, which provides for early detection, management, and treatment of heart attacks and other cardiac conditions resulting in reduced cardiac mortality. This program allows EMS personnel to transmit electrocardiograms from a scene directly to on-call cardiologists waiting in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab should this type of procedure be necessary.

Rabun County EMS is actively involved with the community and teaches courses in First Aid, CPR, AED, Emergency Medical Responder, Car Seat Inspection, and Installation
